My family keeps asking me for money, and I don't know what to do.
I grew up in a rural area and moved to New York for college (full scholarship). I'm still relatively early in my career, but am making a good salary at $90K. However, NYC is an extremely expensive place to live — I'm so lucky to not have student loans, but it's not exactly like I'm rolling in extra spending money. Still, certain members of my family must believe I'm earning even more, because I've been hit up for a "loan" a few times now. The idea has always been but that I'll be reimbursed, but they take their time doing it — one relative has owed me $400 since August. I feel guilty hitting them up for this money, since I can get by without it and I know that's more than their monthly rent, but it's still money I deserve to have (since it is, you know, mine). What should I do to get this money back, and to stop being used like my family's ATM machine...??
