MFT looking to assist with uplifting others

Marriage and family Therapist

I earned a Master degree in Marriage and family therapy in 2017 only to acquire job positions that pay less than 30,000/yr. I want to apply for licensure, but struggle to acquire a LMFT in my job positions willing to provide 150 hours of supervision for free. Are there other career field positions that my Master degree in MFT may provide me the ability to provide guidance, pay student loans, and my living expenses bills?

A search on Indeed for Marriage Family Therapist jobs returned 4,677 jobs, many showing a salary of 50k+. Are you restricted to a particular area?

Thank you for providing the search information. Most, if not all, of those positions showing a salary of 50,000 and up require a License in MFT. That is where the main problem comes in to play. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to acquire a license as a MFT. The requirements are 3000 hours of experience and 300 hours of supervision, 150 hours of supervision by a licensed MFT , and 150 hours of supervision by a licensed mental health professional. It is practically impossible to acquire the LMFT supervision free of charge. The cheapest offer I found from a LMFT in Pennsylvania was $60 dollars per 1 hour of supervision. I can not afford to pay $60 x 150 hours with such a low salary of $42,000 or less offered in this field. It is my passion to provide guidance to the young and old. However, I have student loans of over $130,000 and living expenses that I am drowning in financially. I am seriously considering changing career fields. I am not restricted to the area, but in order to move to another city or state without a license you need money , which is something I do not have from salaried positions I acquired as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant, Mobile Therapist, Outpatient Therapist, Family-based therapist, Mental Health Therapist, and a Lead Clinician in the Philadelphia public school system.

The government hires LMFT (Counselors not so much :( ) I totally feel your pain! I a m a PCC-S in the state of Ohio ( I don't think it matters what state) My last position as a "Contract Therapist" started at $25 per hr. quickly went to $30 per hr. but after 3 years a receptionist (of 3 Mo.) lied and I was back to $25 (!) no benefits of course, and I had to pay all liability insurance etc. Looking for a full time job is a joke, with my license and 31 years experience I also get the low-ball "Mid-30's " salary range or mid 40's with ridiculous productivity requirements and pathetic benefits. It is sad but I don't know why anyone would go into this field, especially when the "new" answer for dangerous criminals is Mental Health therapy (!) NO It is not worth $9-20 an hour. Entry Level salary for Teachers, Nurses and Police are higher than that! (around 45K ) and provide muck better benefits, EMT's and STNA's are the only fields I know with equally pathetic wages. My advise, change fields.

After 4 years of struggling to stay financially afloat with a Master Degree I am strongly considering changing fields! Thanks
