Oh yeah! My daughter is now 7 , and she still plays with some of them. Her favorites at two were the wooden puzzles. There is a specifc way to present puzzles with Montessori - and it makes total sense if you think about it. You get a serving tray and place the pieces in a small basket and the puzzle without the pieces on it. You show your child to pick up the tray , take it to a location, use the pieces in the basket to complete the puzzle. When you are done, you put the pieces back in the basket and put the tray away. The reason for the process/demonstration is to show that 1. everything has it's place - no messes 2. the tray provides the child a sense of boundaries within that activity (keeps them focused on what needs to be done) 3. By placing the puzzle pieces inside the basket, you are asking the child to do something (clean up) 4. the child is able to self correct when they realize that one piece doesn't fit a spot in the puzzle and will move on to the next slot until they find the slot that fits the puzzle (creates independence). Hope this makes sense ! The link above goes to a blog for a lady that really explains the benefits of these types of toys for child development.
