Summer routines when the kids are home

We're on summer break from homeschooling and I feel totally disjointed without school as part of our routine. How are you moms maintaining structure over the summer break?

I did the best I could by planning every week in advance and syncing it with my work calendar to remind myself of what was changing. Every transition from summer to the academic year and even spring and winter breaks I've found to be more difficult than I'd like. I think the reason that small changes feel so hard (at least in my case), is that I'm juggling so many things already that even one small tweak to the 'balance' that I've got going ends up feeling like it can throw an otherwise finely tuned machine-of-routine off. Good luck...I think we may just be stuck with these transition periods for the next two decades so I'm trying to enjoy the ride as much as I can. Sometimes I console myself by reminding myself that my kids don't seem to notice!

It sounds like you're way more prepared than I am. I really should have this down by now -- I end up feeling this same way about our routine every summer. We tried homeschooling through the summer but found we needed the break. It's definitely something I need to work on so there's more of a routine to these days, instead of feeling at loose ends.

It's not easy. I haven't mastered a routine myself either yet!
