I feel like there are so many stereotypes around couple's therapy — that it's a last resort, the relationship is already doomed, etc. — that I have so much fear and hesitation around bringing this up to my partner. We have the occasional squabble, sure — sometimes more than occasional! — but we're essentially happy together and the relationship is not at risk of ending anytime soon. And yet... I've gotten so much out of individual therapy, and think there are some issues that couple's therapy could help us address. Has anyone else tried this — couple's therapy when something ISN'T disastrously wrong in your relationship — and what was your experience?
