WFH policies in an age of coronavirus

For those of you working remotely in this community, how is it going? It seems a lot of people are in uncharted territory and we just made the decision as a company to do mandatory WFH. I know that's not possible for so many types of workers and employees but wondering how everyone feels and is coping.

So my company was directly impacted (had a case in our office) and were only closed for cleaning. While the global employees felt this was enough, many of the American employees felt as though their health did not matter when many other local organizations were working from home 1 to 2 weeks before returning to normal schedules. I feel this is horrific as it does not show the company sees the severity of the issue. That being said, my concern may stem from global employees having horrible sanitary habits (not covering when they cough, sneezing without covering, and coming from areas that are heavily impacted with no visible testing to show they have no fever because they work 18 hour days, etc.) I will say this virus has killed less people than the standard flu but this is because less people were impacted. I think those who are elderly, young with limited immune systems, and those who have auto-immune diseases should have special exceptions to limit their exposure as their immune systems are already working in high-gear and cannot fight off this virus as well as those that are healthy. It is a touchy subject but the WOH setup is the future of the workplace and organizations need to work through the process to ensure they are not left in the dust in the future!

Do any of you find benefit in making use of video conferencing? Once my company moves in that direction, I worry that the lack of face time will result in communications issues. I believe video conferencing can resolve some of the misunderstandings that will inevitably occur and enable that 'stopped by your desk' feel. I just wonder if my perception is grounded in reality.

Currently I'm on work from home until 3/31. It has been 3 days and there are positives and negatives. Positives: more time with my family, more sleep because no commute, lots of time to make nice presentations, no coworkers coughing on me Negatives: ergonomics are horrible (neck & wrist pain already), missing work friends, hard to read people/the room (emotional intelligence) over email & phone

Yeah, I agree this ups the ante on communication. I have found that even the old fashioned quick-phone call to be so much better in certain situations than a Slack message.
