Period problems

Periods are messy and uncomfortable under normal circumstances. Tampons and pads are not a huge expense for most women. But what about if your period lasts too long or is extra heavy? It's like living a nightmare. I have been bleeding since Halloween. It is now the end of February. I should see a doctor, I'm sure, but I have no insurance and am currently between jobs to boot. I have gone through an average of 5 super plus tampons a day, plus pads. For the past few months, I havw spent about 50 each month just in period products, not to mention the ruined sheets and clothes. And, I apologize for being graphic, but the clots are crazy. It should also be noted that I am in my 20s. I dont take birth control, am fairly certain I am anemic, and am quite frankly exhausted. I have been thinking of visiting planned parenthood but am afraid of backlash. I live in the South. I don't know if I could handle walking past a group of angry protesters... Advice?

Oh Honey, I feel for you! Please, please go to PP or a female MD. I once bled so heavily I was sure I was dying- turned out to be a cervical polyp that was easily corrected and I've had no problems since. I normally avoid conventional medicine, but sometimes they really do have solutions. I live in the South too. Wear business clothes and take a briefcase with you to PP. The protesters will think you're a salesperson. Just go, now! And let us know the outcome.

It scars the lining inside your uterus, but if you plan on having children it would keep you from. They will not do it at your age, especially if you have no children. I had the same problem and I was put on birth control pills for it. That worked for a few yrs until it didn't and that is when I got the ablation. I had 2 kids and was 37. Also look into supplements for anemia, you are probably exhausted ALL the time right now and that will read in any interview you do. Get your strength up and then go kill it out there. You will feel better!

I think an ablation should be offered to any woman over 40. It was literally life-changing for me!

Go to Planned Parenthood and be seen at least. They also can get you in touch with other resources! As for the protesters, well, walk in with your head held high. You're in need of health care, they provide it. Simple as that.

You could also try acupuncture; it worked for me. There is a point at the top of your big toes that will help stop or regulate your cycle.

I am going to share my opinion - I had that for six years. When I had my period, I simply didn't leave the house they were so heavy and messy. I have insurance that the state covers, but nothing special. I'm sure your state has medical assistance as well? Anyway - I ended up being diagnosed with adenomyosis and that answered why it was the way it was. I don't think Planned Parenthood could do anything for you other than suggest birth control to maybe see if it would help. I ended up having a hysterectomy because during my exam they found cancer. :(. So, if you can, go to the doctor. I was anemic also from the blood loss. I feel for you! You aren't alone!

You're invited.
