Looking for Work at the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I'm a mom to two small kids and we simply can't live on my husband's salary alone anymore. I need a job but should I really be looking now during the holiday season? Or am I just drunk off of all the eggnog in the air?

Thrive Global is always accepting pieces. Have you thought about using your skills to start a podcast? That way you could acquire sponsors (get paid) and work from home.

I haven't heard of Thrive Global but I'm writing them in my notebook now. I haven't thought of the podcast route. I have a blog now but I'm using it to stay relevant and keep my clips fresh rather than trying to make money from it. Thank you for your ideas!

Morning Brew (business news & analysis distributed via digital channels) is hiring journalists/writers to lead their different news verticals (tech, real estate, retail, etc.) and I think you can work remotely but not positive. https://angel.co/morning-brew-1/jobs

To be eager is a wonderful quality. It shows motivation, willingness to step up to the plate (even during the holiday season). So I support your decision. Look at it this way, the way things run in companies nowadays, you won't get started until after January. I wish you the best in your search! Now go get them!

I agree with the above commenter — I think it can't hurt to look now! Maybe you could start doing some soft networking right now as well (reaching out to people on LinkedIn, etc) so that you have more connections // are at the top of people's minds going into their new hiring budgets opening up in Q1? I.e. use this time to not only apply for jobs, but also set yourself up for better applying success when the timing is more ideal!

In my opinion, it can't hurt to look right now, especially since you're looking into the news industry, which is always busy/is less seasonal than some other industries. You may have more luck landing interviews in January as opposed to right now, but January is fast approaching — so I think it still makes sense to apply ASAP. That said, I hope you're able to spend quality time with your family this holiday season, too! Best of luck.

Thank you for responding to my question! My field is reporting - like tv or newspapers.

What kind of job are you looking to find?? I think it depends on the industry/role you'd like to get into!
