Tell us about a time your life changed for the better

We all have small and big moments that have made a difference in our lives. From taking a big risk to stumbling upon something/someone who changed your life in retrospect, what’s something that has changed your life for the better? This is hard to narrow down. Along with joining the FGB Community and meeting the most amazing women and meeting someone (now husband) that I have a huge crush on... I’d say being able to have moved around the country over the last decade has changed my life for the better. It’s opened my mind in ways I never would’ve known. Each move (3) was both terrifying yet liberating. Okay FGB’ers, your turn!

The day I completed treatment for breast cancer. I went through chemo, surgery and radiation. Although I still experience side effects, I’m happy to be alive. And it later gave me the kick I needed to get healthy, so last year I lost 35 pounds and now have more energy than ever.

The night in 2004 when I heard the song "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw on the way home from a 16 hour work day. I cried in the car as I realized I was exhausted, miserable and stressed out! I started by changing jobs (something less stressful), got a professional life coach, and taking care of me! Because of the coaching I received, I became a professional coach focusing on life. I also started another business and worked a full time job. I was busy, but not nearly as stressed out as I was previously. Since then life has had its share of ups/downs, but who hasn't. I say life is what happens when you have other plans. I'm in an introspective period right now trying to determine next steps. Living in the present moment and taking my time.

Amazing! I've been trying to live in the present moment lately as I was just given this advice recently. Side note: I heart Tim McGraw.

The day I moved to NYC for college. I know people do this every day, but being a twin and separating from her for the first time was a HUGE step in my growth and independence—and it made me better for it! Still here in NYC too, but now she joined me ;)

Moving to a new city and leaving the place I called home for 23 years. It opened up my eyes to the bubble I had been living in and has allowed me to meet some of the most kind, interesting people ever!

The day I found my faith and accepted Jesus as my savior. I had no kind of faith for 26.5 years. Everything changed from that point. I found forgiveness. I found peace. I found myself.

The day I moved to Belgium for work. I didn't know anyone or even the language. The most rewarding professional and personal experience of my life....

My first day teaching as an adjunct professor at Hunter College, the course was "Women and the Media" and I went on to offer it for 6+ years. I did this while continuing to work in advertising, and it was a seamless merger between theory and practice which I think my students really appreciated. The student body at this CUNY school is diverse in age, gender and ethnicity - which I found truly inspiring and motivating as a teacher - and as a feminist! I learned as much as I taught during those classes.

The day I left my corporate job and started my own company. It’s the most challenging yet rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
