I'm currently on extended medical leave from work (will probably be six months before I return) due to a stroke. I'm a psychiatric social worker. I'm getting physical and occupational therapy for the weakness in my arm and leg. I was also evaluated by a neuropsychologist and the result was that my processing speed ( the time it takes me to complete a task) takes twice as long as normal. And while my memory ( which I thought was a major issue) is okay, my initial ability to focus and pay attention is impaired. However she thinks I will be able to go back to work when the time is up by initially working a shorter day and with a reduced caseload. I have been in touch with my boss and she is not aware of the cognitive issues I am facing. What is the best way to broach asking for these accommodations with her?
