So I am not sure if you will remember but I was made redundant couple of months ago and I was devastated. The company I worked for almost 10 years, told me one day that I was not needed from that day. I was hurt, angry and disappointed. I am so glad and proud to tell you today that I found a job which probably is close to my dream job! I am so elated and excited, that I am crying as I write this!
I remember the day rather middle of the night I stumbled into FGB and you guys are such a great support. Thanks for being there and sending many encouraging words.
For all those who are/were impacted by COVID redundancy, chin up, believe in yourself and dont give up. Looking for a job and finding one is hard, harsh, disappointing and frustrating but at the end there is light.

To be honest I applied for many many roles and one particular one stood out due to the way they had written the job description. It was humorous and witty and showcased the company culture. So after applying to the job formally, I reached out to the founder of the company (it is a start up) directly and rest feels like it is history! Basically knowing what I want and going after the one thing closest to what I want and persevering it helped.

It's so great to hear you excited. I too was laid off after 10 years and I had to literally grieve first! I keep wondering when I'll get excited about the next gig and I'm glad to see that it has come for you. Rock it!

I know exactly what you mean by you had to grieve. I did too...i was angry, upset and disappointed for few days, then in denial and self-pity for next few and then I had to get out of the hole and my kids helped me...they are only 5 and 3 and for them I had to be brave and positive. Its def an experience which I will never forget!

Thanks for sharing your good news, it gives me encouragement! I received the same news after being in a position for almost 12 years. It was 12 years ago this week that I took a leap and started a new position in a field in which I had no experience. I agreed to give it a 4 month try and it turned into an over 11 year journey. I was given notice to start looking, that was 7 months ago and I have been officially unemployed for 4 months now. It hurt after 11 years of loyalty to a company and hurt even more when they thought I wasn't attempting to look for a new position. During the first 3 months I was only able to secure a couple of phone interviews. It is discouraging when I get reports back that I am one of over 200 applicants, I had one this week where I was one of over 500. I am looking and interviewing but nothing yet. I was thankful for virtual interview options during the 2 weeks I lost to a covid diagnosis. I know that my position is out there and it is encouraging to hear of others success! Good Luck with your new position !

Thank you. I know it is easier said than done but hand in there. I am sure that something meant to be will always come around. I exactly know what you mean when you say you were one among 200 or 500 applicants, I have been there myself and I did not apply for few roles looking at the number of applicants. Its a harsh environment but chin up and until then we are here to listen.

Congratulations!! I read your post and had to check if I wrote it because our situations were identical. I was at my company 10 years, deemed a redundancy and released. I was recently hired at a great organization filling a position I am excited about. Congratulations again, I truly celebrate with you.
