Does anyone actually mean this:
I'm job searching and when I am rejected after a 'phone screen', I often get a message like this: "We hope you will keep an eye on our career site for other roles you may find interesting.
" That's a particularly polite one (if you're the recruiter who wrote it, I appreciate your phrasing), but they all basically say to reapply to new roles, even at <1000 employee companies. Except I'm a product manager. I applied to be a product manager. The next job I apply for will be a product manager position. There aren't a diversity of roles for which I would apply.
So I'm curious. Has anyone kept applying and gotten a job, or hired someone who did similar? If you're a recruiter, how much of this is polite form letter and how much is an actual request?

First, kudos to the employer for a polite message.
Second, keep applying for product management and related positions.
I’d take this message at its face value: they liked your background and your interview and encourage you to keep applying for additional openings.

Great question and one I'm curious about too! I've continued to apply but have finally moved on to other companies and taken those I've applied to off my list. I attempted reapplying for a couple of roles after I was turned down during the interview process (not just screening interview) and thought the company was a great fit for me but wasn't selected for the role. I applied to future postings. I've finally decided that perhaps it's just an easy way out for recruiters to say - "thanks, but no thanks." It's sad, I'd rather have good, solid feedback rather than a polite answer.

I have seen this happen at my place of employment. Someone applies for one position, they are rejected, but then they apply for another similar position, and they an interview or even get the job. I do think this is sincere, and it can work to your benefit.

It is probably a robo type email.

In some corporate settings (google, for example)... if you apply for different types of positions, they think you don't know what you want, and they think you're desperate to do "anything" rather than something you're really good at. So depending on how much you know about the company & their policies, you might want to only apply for PM positions.

I have applied for different roles in the same company I ended up landing my current role. I even applied for two very similar roles within a couple of months with the same hiring manager and they called me back and interviewed me twice. I didnt end up going with that team because I got an offer from the same company but different position before they reached a decision. So keep going, sometimes you may not be the right candidate for that particular role due to the pool of candidates, someone else may have something else, but if there is another chance you may be the right fit.
