I’m a new manager interested in learning about what is considered acceptable behavior from a direct report.
I have a new hire that e-mails
me to ask if I’m available to talk, suggests a couple of time options and then asks me to give them a call.
I find the “give me a call” aspect of this request irksome, it rubs me the wrong way. I would love to know if others see this differently and could me adjust my viewpoint if I’m taking this wrongly. If you are thinking the way I am, which is “Why are you asking ME to call you about something YOU need?”, can you help me address the behavior in a way that helps the employee see how it looks to me. Thank you.
