I am feeling very unsafe in my current job because a staff person on my small team just got fired, and the way the firing was handled left me feeling distrustful and wondering if I will be next. Feeling desperate to find something and extremely discouraged because of the drama and…
lately I feel like my life is just falling apart.
I'm constantly alone and sad. I make art and I sell it sometimes but not enough to live off of, and I'm very depressed. I also have 1500 in debt because I bought food and art supplies on credit. I have excellent credit because of my past spending …
I am interviewing for a role that has a low ball salary given the expectations and specialized knowledge for the job. I am unemployed so I'm considering it. However, on top of that, they have a process that includes 3 rounds of interviews, a homework assignment to be presented to…
When I started searching, I reached to my contacts and made everyone aware that I was looking for a new position. Sadly, that didn't amount to much as while sympathetic, they didn't have the connections to aid my search.…

In my last job (a non-profit), they quietly pushed all those over 40 or 50 (even the administrative and financial employees) and replaced them with interns they would train and eventually hire. It was their way of keeping the payroll and benefits expenses low. I was told more than once that they wanted new and fresh ideas and were distressed at the "age" of many of their employees. I am now looking for another job, and I have only the last 15 years on my resume. I don't include the graduation date of my BS degree (1977), and I am getting a lot of interest. I feel like I must knock it out of the park in the first interview to be considered. I would have never gotten that far if they knew how old I am.

I get it, and in principle I agree with you, but it's hard to get ANY job outside of minimum wage restaurant/retail work. We have to have housing and food. I would love to have a wide option of wonderful jobs to choose from, but that just isn't the case for many of us right now. If leaving the dates off helps us get in the door, then maybe we can convince them that despite being born in the "1900s," we have some life left in us.

Yes I agree - If you must, then you must. You have a LOT to offer an employer and I hope you find an employer that values you and pays you MORE than you are worth :)
