Would you consider a gift card to your company a BONUS?
Today I was handed $100 gift card (to the company stores) for my "bonus" this year. After giving my heart and soul to the business the past three years, this made my blood boil and made me feel very under valued. I thankfully had a job the entire pandemic, but I also continued to work 11 hour days the entire time. Even putting hours in on the weekends, going above and beyond.
So, this started to make me think....
What's the biggest "slap in the face" reward you have received from a past or current employer?
Ps. I already have so many other issues with the company, but this was the push I needed to start applying to new positions.

My sister was once sat down at a cheap buffet lunch with her colleagues, at which time the employer played that part of the Grinch where he says: "it came without ribbons, it came without tags, it came without packages, boxes, or bags..." And goes on to say how Christmas is in your heart like the Who's in WhoVille. All this to explain they would be receiving nothing that year.
Also consider pulling back. 11 hr days on a regular basis is too much. And they can't afford to compensate you for that level of effort (or don't want to). Looking for greener pastures may be good too.

I am ABSOLUTELY pulling back my hours and efforts. They aren’t valued.
That’s terrible . What a GRINCH move. ☹️

Luckily we can laugh about how absurd that was now, but back then she was really demoralized.
I mean seriously, to be a cheap jerk and then preach about it to guilt employees into thinking it's ok? Lame.

I work as a legal secretary. Traditionally, end-of-year bonuses at law firms are pretty decent to quite substantial, depending on the firm and the economy. However, I once worked for a small law firm where the owner gave everyone a home-made apple pie (baked by his wife) as the end-of-year bonus, saying that home-made gifts were better than money, blah, blah, blah. It was disappointing, to say the least.

At work, I received an actual Christmas bonus plus a $200 gift card. When I was in banking, I got my unused vacation time cashed out.

I would not consider that a bonus at all since the company store is not likely to be somewhere I'd want to shop with my bonus money. Having said that, I have worked at few companies that gave any kind of year end bonus at all.

Same experience with my previous company, a laughable 100$ Christmas check and a cheap buffet. Luckily they are in my past.

It's nice, but not really a bonus as the $ is already tied to their company so that's not the right description for it...

Gee, I am sorry to hear that as a "gift card" is called a gift for a reason, not a bonus...unless on some slim scenario is that the bonus was calculated based on low sales. In your case, it is good to start applying elsewhere as you are not valued and some companies don't know how to retain workers. Good luck.
