I moved to Detroit four years ago and it took me a year to find a job. Then layoffs sent me back to the job market. Then it took another nine months to find a job. One of the issues is whether or not you have experience for the job in your area.
I had a lot of first and second interviews. What I believe it came down to, was my market experience. I have almost exclusively non-profit experience and I was being interviewed for for profit jobs.
I can't know from what you posted, but my suggestion is look at the companies to which you applied. Is there a common thread of experience that you are missing? Start with the "would be nice but not necessary" qualifications.
