Video Screening

Providing job hunters with a list of questions and requirements that they respond to via a video presentation is becoming increasingly more popular with employers. As someone who has been on the candidate side doing these types of screens and someone who doubles on the recruiting side, I have mixed reviews. What are your thoughts? Has anyone had experience doing a video screen prior to being asked to formally interview? What are your thoughts?

I prefer a phone interview for pre-screening. It gives both sides a chance to get to know each other without any tech issues or potential biases. Additionally, I think it's a fairer method for introverted candidates, allowing them to get more comfortable before a video or in-person interview.

I've also read about AI software that filters candidates on these video interviews, which may weed you out for ... computational reasons / bad AI bias. The worst part of "hiring as an industry" is that the candidates really don't have any insight into what's happening. We waste A LOT of time.

Totally get it Diane! It is also a very impersonal introduction to an organization.

It was AWFUL!! I think these type of interviews are geared to the younger generation who are used to taking selfies and being in front of the camera. I need human interaction! Needless to say, I wasn't invited to the second round of interviews even though I had all the credentials and several people in the organization were looking at my resume.

You're invited.
