Trouble concentrating???

Anybody else finding it increasingly difficult to concentrate on their tasks at hand lately. I procrastinate more, get distracted by trivial issues and in general feeling stuck. Do you have any tips to share with the group to help get out of this rut? Sometimes playing music in the background helps me. Also, going offline helps too. But only so much! Appreciate any and all help!

I like listening to humorous podcasts while I work. I think it gives my brain something to "multi-task" on but I don't need to hang on every word if I miss a joke. It also doesn't require the emotional investment that listening to a true crime podcast does. I also work in 20-30 minute increments, and tell myself that I can do 5 minutes of social time (or get a snack or read a magazine) after I do the 20-30 minutes. It's hard though! I think most of us are underestimating the amount of stress this pandemic is putting on us mentally.

I am beyond thankful that someone else posted this and it is full of useful responses. I know I have been off lately and have been exploring options and several of them were listed here as working well for others ?

This time is hard and it feels like the distractions when working from home never end. I found it helps to play concentration music, tackle my most important items in the morning, and batch work. I use the Pomodoro Technique for time management when I start to feel overwhelmed and break my day into smaller chunks where I only focus at one task for 25 minutes, followed by a break or walk outside to reset. https://tomato-timer.com/ is the timer I user

Regardless of how much we think COVID is affecting our lives, it is. We are living with trauma. 200,000 Americans dead. More worldwide. Then there is the unrest that comes with change in our country. We are living through heavy times and that takes a toll on our psyches. Give yourself a break. Don't expect to function the way you did pre-covid. I'm a very focused person and I'm finding my motivation lacking, too. I do all the things I'm supposed to - take breaks, meditate, exercise regularly, social (distanced) outings with friends - I'm still struggling some days. Hugs to you. You are not alone in this.

3 out-of-the-box suggestions that take wholistic approach to rejuvenation, maxed-out surge capacity, and COVID malaise. 1 ?DRINK MORE WATER. Yeah. get a water bottle and chug 32 oz when you wake up. Just a matter of time before you have to go, which means you are gettin' up and doin' something. Keep your bladder full and your body will get you unstuck. Also, all the benefits of being hydrated. 2 ?SEX MAGIC. That's right. Heard about if from a friend and it's like orgasm meets manifestation. Call in some guides (people who have died who you knew or not), identify specific thing you want (be specific). Bring yourself ALMOST to climax twice and then let it rip on the third go 'round. Sex magic. Every day. See what happens. 3 ?GET RID OF STUFF. Find 1,2,3,4,5 things to toss. Not just the old letters or clothes, but look into your digital stuff and start getting rid of stuff. Let it lead you to writing someone a letter of gratitude, or being reminded of your own LIVED experiences. Get lighter. Hope these helps. BOOM.

I am a constant list-keeper. I cross things out when they're done and rewrite the list when it gets too messy for me. I also aim to write fairly concrete things on the list so it's clear when they have been completed. And no, you are not alone in this!

I have been reading about brain plasticity and a few suggestions i am trying out are: Getting excited about what you have to do tricks your brain into thinking the task is urgent; taking time out and try not to focus on anything ( example look around you and see everything, or go watch the horizon) then go back to your task.

Sounds like it is time for a pause. We are living in a cycle of uncertainty right now and feeling like you are moving in place is a red flag for a change. Sometimes simply separating from the situation at hand, will allow you to refresh and reframe what is really important. Plan to break up your week with a day for self, or take a weekend and unplug and bring creativity into your space. When you look back in at your current situation, do so as if you are a friend giving advice...only the friend is you. Now try something new.

Yes! Very difficult for me right now, especially in the beginning of the week since the weekends are not feeling quite as restful and I'm highly stressed. I am in LOVE with the application "Todoist". It's very user friendly and syncs across devices. I am also a new user to Headspace which I am hoping will give my brain a break. Finally, yoga has been a game changer for me. Check out: DownDog! It's awesome and easy to fit into the schedule. Good luck! You got this!

The weekends dont feel like they used to because there is no "getting away" from the current situation .. I remember the first 6 weeks of the pandemic we didn't order any takeout from anywhere ... Just the regular work and all the cooking and the cleaning was just crushing me! .. Once that initial time passed it has gotten easier .. Thank you for these tips..

Yes Yes Yes! I am not used to working from home and I was just talking to a coworker on a personal level and asked her is there a such thing as conditional ADD? If so, I definitely have it. Sometimes if I listen to true crime podcasts I can stay focused on the task at hand (which sounds weird, I know). What has helped me the most is good old fashioned paper and pen. I write my most important goal of the day and one thing for which I am grateful. Don't get me wrong, it's still a battle. But at least I can say I checked off one important thing for the day!!! Good luck to you all - (and to me LOL)

Yes with me too .. worked in an office setup all my life .. NGL I watched a lot of TV my first week .. Having a designated office space helped me .. also I brought my office setup home so the desk has a familiar feel to it .. little things help!
