IT WON’T BE LIKE THIS FOR LONG

The other night I was cuddling with my son and Darius Rucker’s song, “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” popped into my head. I was super present in that moment as I realized this stage will be over in a flash. Pretty soon he won’t want to cuddle with Mommy. It got me thinking... This phase of life...however hard it is for you, please remember this one thing: It won’t be like this for long. While there are so many parts of life we don’t have control over, there are several we do. The direction of your career is one. If you feel stuck right now, I promise there is a way out. Take some small steps that will make a big impact, and you’ll find that it won’t be like this for long.

Totally agree with you. I've been a single mom for eight years now and the first four years of me and my daughter being separated from my husband had been really hard for us, financially. Those years taught us so much to be resilient, to persevere, to trust each other more, and to have faith in God. In my heart, I know that we will overcome whatever hardships we are going through. Then, 2016 came and everything just fell in the right places. We're realizing most of our goals and we're just so happy about it, until that fateful day in September of 2017. I was crossing the pedestrian when an 18-wheeler truck bumped me and left me partially disabled with my right hip replaced. It was never the same after that. I can never walk without my cane anymore. I was deeply crushed thinking that it will greatly affect my daughter's future. But then everyday, I am seeing how my daughter is coping up with what happened to me without complain. It was then that I realized how much she has learned during the first four years of us being together, alone. She knew that I, we, would be able to withstand any hardship that will come our way. She would often tell me that no matter how difficult it may seem, it will soon pass and we'll be coming out victorious again. It's been three years now after the accident and life for us has just been so great. I've gained more friends since then. My daughter is now on her senior high. I'm still with the same company and a few months back, I got a little promotion at work. We're not rich but I can say, debt-free. We're living a simple yet accomplished and contented life. Those difficult years have surely kept us grounded. That time when my daughter said that our hardships will soon pass, she's definitely saying: It won't be like this for long.

Heide - thank you so much for sharing your story...WOW! You have overcome so much and I love how each time you've known better times are on their way. And how you've raised your daughter must be your proudest accomplishment yet. Well done!
