With the attention on diversity and inclusion my concern is that we promote effective solutions. As a retired hiring manager I all to often encountered poor hiring policies that left me with hires that weren't able to perform even with coaching, transitioning programs, and reasonable accommodations. More than once I was forced to change a recommendation on a promotion of an employee simply to get more diversity in management or as a technical lead. Too many times I was given a restricted pool of applicants to consider. If I indicated that no applicants met the standards then I was told I would loose a chance to hire anyone.
Training staffs on diversity were another
issue. Most trainings were either treated as being insulting and demeaning to staff in one form or another.
