I've been working for over 15 years with the same small company in a managerial position.
I've managed a branch that has grown and is self sufficient with income derived from this branch covers all its expenses including payroll of myself and one staff member. The owner has stated in the past the company would be mine to run after her retirement but nothing was formerly in writing. Due to age and health concerns, the owner is in negotiations with a larger company to buy us out and the owner has been completely transparent regarding it. I do not have the financial means to offer to outbid them or purchase the company myself. Should I start anew in a completely different field or negotiate a stake with the new owners?
