contract roles and paid parental leave

I'm currently in the job market and also considering my future family decisions. I've been assuming that contract-roles don't come along with paid parental leave benefits but now I'm wondering. Is that true? Do you have experience with contract roles and whether or not they have parental leave? I know often these roles are slated for "6 months" but the company might hire you afterwards... how would parental leave work then? I'm just looking for any experiences you might have with parental leave and contract roles, thanks.

my contract role encouraged me to take time off, but it's unpaid.

Contract roles typically come without benefits which includes parental leave. In some cases, companies may adjust your hire date if you become staff which would impact benefits in your favor but that is not guaranteed. With that, with the right planning and forethought, taking time off for parental leave is absolutely feasible for ICs. Good luck!

I've hired people for contract roles, and have explored them myself and have never been offered any benefits. Where I worked most recently, as a full time employee wouldnt honor any sort of leave with pay until after 1 year of service.
