Virtual Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Women's Leadership Forum

On 8/13/2020, I attended the virtual Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Pink Bag Lunch. Pink Bag Lunch is a program that provides women with the opportunity to connect, network, and engage with other women in business on the Peninsula. The event was named Finding Your Groove and the guest speaker was Sabrina Jones, Director of Strategic Partnerships at The Mariner’s Museum and Park. The event was focused on balancing it all - knowing the difference between stretching yourself too thin and living in your purpose, finances - personal and business financial planning, how to sustain and grow the life you want, building your brand - let your work ethic and authenticity create a path for success. Mistakes do not define you. As women, we wear different hats and we are constantly seeking balance. Finding your groove means navigating life, career, and business with purpose. Some exercises to take stock of your roles are: • Finding counsel – consult your accountability partner or a trusted advisor • Visually displaying all the roles you play and mark which roles do not bring you joy • Cut out activities that do not add value – do not feel guilty for doing so To assess your roles, ask yourself: • How do you feel after engaging in that role? • Is this something that comes naturally? • What benefit does it derive? • Are you being a doormat? In closing, eliminating roles that do not add value will increase your work-life balance and leave time for roles that do add value to your life.
