The 5-Minute Vetting Process for Quicker Responsiveness

Unfortunately, the last thing we need are scams in the job search market. However, they are there. To stay competitive and have the ability to quickly respond to outreach, I recommend that you develop a quick 5-minute vetting process prior to responding to outreach from interested Recruiters/Hiring Managers, or others. Once a new opportunity arises and you have received a communication expressing interest in your skills or wanting to move forward in the interview process, you should be able to vet: · The source · The company · The role · Any other key points that are of importance to you or your circumstances/field/industry, etc. Resources to look into for vetting: · LinkedIn profile of Recruiter and Company (i.e. Is there only 1 employee?, etc.) · Company website (If possible, confirm the employee or recruiter works for the company.) · Glassdoor reviews or posted testimonials, etc. · Google Search for complaints Keep in mind that these are only guides to mitigate risk! There is still the possibility that you may not catch one or that you disqualify one that is real, but just think about the following; · What kind of personal information are they asking of me other than my resume or information that would be found on my resume. · Am I actually a good candidate for the role they are reaching out to me about? · Have I done anything to warrant this level of outreach i.e. receiving an offer without an interview The biggest red flag of all is if you even get a small twinge of a feeling that something seems off, then simply trust your gut.
