Is it okay for me to engage with recruiters when…?

I just started a new job recently and I’m actually loving it. But of course, now that I’m a few months into this job, recruiters are contacting me to talk. While I’m not currently searching for a job, do you think it’s okay to take these calls for the purpose of learning (but knowing that I'm not ready to take them)?

Absolutely agree with the above comments, you should take the call! For one thing, you can directly ask the recruiters what about your profile has brought you to their attention. In this way you can learn your own selling points. While you're happy in your position, think about what's next for you. Do you want to achieve a promotion or title change in the next few years? There's a good chance that the recruiters have sourced talent for the positions you aspire to. This means you have an opportunity to ask them what experience you will need to work with them in the future to get that position later down the road. You can then take those points on skills and experience you need to develop, and work that into your professional development at your current job. This will show your current employer that you're driven too! All around, this is an information gathering win for you!

Agree with the above advice that you continue to engage with recruiters. Mention that you are not yet ready to consider new positions, but give them referrals (if you have any) and ask the recruiters to keep you in their database for positions further down the road (1 year or more.)

Well there is nothing wrong with talking. Building relationships with recruiters can be mutually beneficial. You are not looking now, but what if that changes in a year or more. Having a network of recruiters available is a blessing. And, maybe you can help a friend or family member by referring them to the recruiter. I wish I had your problem. Take care!

Yes. Take the call. It’s networking and building relationships if you may need them in the future. Also, it’s an opportunity to refer some people in your network that may be looking.

I am a recruiter and it is ok to have informational calls. We like to network as well. However, I would be selective and really have a clear direction of why you would want to talk to that specific recruiter. What do you want to gain from the conversation? Is it the company you want to learn about? Is it the particular position? Maybe you are not looking to switch, but you may know someone that is, offering a referral is always nice. All in all, I think it's ok; but I would make it productive not to waste your own time or theirs.
