33 weeks pregnant and unemployed

For the last 3 years I have been in the property Managment field. I started as an admin in a high rise co-op community and got promoted to Jr. assistant manager and was relocated to high rise condo community. I recently got married and moved to Miami Beach Florida with a job transfer but due to the Covid virus things didn’t work so smoothly. Luckily I found a smaller position with the same company at a high rise as a front desk concierge. A few Months in the position i Fouad out o was pregnant, I certainly shared the news with my manager and staff. My due date is in November and my request for maternity leave was October 30. Unfortunately my manager no longer is the manager there and currently the location doesn’t have a manager. But by unauthorized and unethical reasoning I was terminated at 33 weeks into my pregnancy a half an hour before the start of my shift over a video chat. I am still stunt and in disbelief that after all my efforts and loyalty with the company I was terminated on false grounds and there is nothing I can do. I am now seeking work, possibly online so I can attain a continued income. Any advice with this would be truly appreciated

I just had to go through fundraising pregnant and it was hell. It is amazing how badly pregnant woman, and often women with kids, are treated in the workplace. Do you have any experience with social media marketing, or freelance writing? We might be hiring soon, and I would love to have more moms on the team.

Hi, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I researched some resources you can look into for online positions. Here is a resource I found that lists a number of websites that can be useful for you during this time: https://www.theworkathomewoman.com/jobs-for-pregnant-women/

Bringing a life into this world is a beautiful gift. I honestly believe when one door closes another opens… possibly one you are meant to walk through. After you have healed and bonded a bit with your baby you can apply more attention to the legal follow-up with the company. This pandemic is terrible, but there has also been flexible growth in online employment because of it. I recommend taking this time to reflect on what you would like to do next. You should also find mommy groups for the emotional support of balancing work and life. I still love mommypoppins even though I have a tween now. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I understand your desire to move on. There will be other opportunities once you decide to come back to work full time after the baby is born. In the meantime, look at the flexjobs https://www.flexjobs.com/ website that Mary Beth Ferrante recommended.

I'm so sorry to hear you have to deal with this while preparing for baby. I recognize the stress of trying to take legal action but it may be worth speaking with an attorney or filing a compliant with the ACLU to see what action you could take. Even if you don't want to in the end it might be worth exploring. Pregnancy discrimination is alive and well but you absolutely should not have to just take it! That said, if you are looking for remote work, try the flexjobs website and I know this may be super random but you could always see if they are hiring contract tracers in your area for managing the spread of COVID. I know locally for us they are all remote and making phone calls to track down potential exposure and give them the necessary health care info!

Thank you so much for your comment. I’m sure I can take legal action but, that is also so stressful I really don’t want to deal with it. I am however going to look into the online job options you have mentioned. Again thank you so much!

I am not sure if you can take legal action, but may be worth looking into. As for being 33 weeks pregnant, I was in a similar position. If it is feasible, just try to rest and prepare for baby because that is really important. You can look for online jobs like medical biller, transcript writer, personal assistant, online support ,etc. that are really flexible! Good luck mama. Hang in there. The most important thing is that you remain in good spirits and take care of yourself.
