I've been a Respiratory Therapist for past 10 years. Just fell into it by accident when I lost my job in 07. Wasn't something I was crazy about during school and clinicals, but I needed a job and I turned out to be a pretty good RT. I've been applying for other jobs because it's time to get out of this field. Felt that way before Covid.
We've had a new manager past two years and we have been losing staff left and right and Covid has made it worse. I've been applying for jobs outside of my degree area. I want to get back to 9-5 office setting. I've been eyeing the Edward Jones BOA positions. Finance has always intrigued me. Had a few interviews but no offers.
I applied for a Patient Check in Rep at our hospital. Less pay, but hours are 8:30 to 5 M-F with occasional holidays and weekends. Was excited until I interviewed today with the three ladies who would be my bosses. One lead the interview one said absolutely nothing and the third one answered one question. I would love to learn this system but after the interview was over I prayed they wouldn't offer me the position. Not even a half hour later I received an email from HR stating position was mine if I wanted it.
I don't know what to do. On the one hand, my current job with 12 hour shifts upcoming OT and on call shifts due to Covid and our low staffing is killing me and I want out of this dept, but on the other hand, the offer for the new job doesn't thrill me either. Other than the half hour lunch and 15 min breaks I would be sitting there all day long. I don't know what to do.
