Prior to Covid I worked from home. I am the main person working in our house and am a full time caregiver for my disabled husband, so remote work was necessary for me. Plus going to an office that had hundreds of employees crammed in cubicles, coming to work sick, did not bode well with me. Which is partly when I left a corporate job.
I am a digital marketer and have some great skills on many different aspects of marketing. I tried branching out on my own, but networking in my area was tough. I did land a few small clients, but without family and friends to boost my business persona things were tough for me. So I am currently working part time with a local digital marketing agency that took everything virtual. I am just hoping after seeing my work ethic, that I can explain the situation to them when they want everyone to come back to the office. They are a great company to work for and I love the leadership so I am hoping I will be able to stay virtual.
Does anyone have thoughts about this?
Do you like working at home?
Is it something that makes you feel more productive or less?
I would love to hear/read thoughts!

Marketer here as well (mostly digital!) and I feel so fortunate that we've been able to do the lions share of our work from home. I'd recommend asking now about your company's general vibe towards maintaining a virtual work environment in whatever the new world might look like. I know that many management teams, including ours, are having these conversations now and it might be a good time to lend your perspective too, as long as you're comfortable doing so. Bets of luck to you!

Thank you! When I was hired since it was during Covid the understanding was that everything would be virtual. I told my boss during our interview after Covid I may be able to pop in the office a day or two a week. We do have several that are strictly work form home and just hired a videographer that is mostly work form home (1 day a week in office to video). So fingers crossed he will be okay with it. I did already disclose that my husband needs my care every now and again as it was something that came up during my first few weeks of employment. I am probably worried for no reason, but having the conversation sooner rather than waiting is the best idea right now!

Hi Amy,
I'm marketer and before COVID, I would have said, I needed to be in the office. That being said, almost a year later and we're making it work.
I've traveled into the office a few times but otherwise, we've had daily check-ins as well as Teams or Lifesize meetings. It allows us to stay connected throughout the day. In addition, I created a Trello board that provides a visual reference to keep everyone on the same page and accountable.
Due to the fact that you're a full-time caregiver and meeting deadlines while working from home, as Rachel stated, I would voice your opinion.
If you can demonstrate that you can handle your job while working from home as scheduling meetings & time to interact with colleagues, management should consider your request.
Good luck!
