Did you know the 401k was created as an amendment to the tax code called "The Revenue Act of 1978"? The main purpose was to generate revenue for the government. The 401k is a defined contribution plan. The government tells you how much money you can contribute with no guarantee of how much will be there when you go to take it out. Members of Congress do not have 401k plans. They have pensions, which are defined benefit plans. They know exactly how much money will be there when they go to take it out. They wrote the law that takes money from taxpayers and puts it into a pension system for them. Congress uses taxes to fund their retirement instead of retirement that funds taxes. There are ways to get off the 401k train and put money into a vehicle with guaranteed tax free growth. It's called an IGIC - Investment Grade Insurance Contract. Your 401k can be reclassified into an IGIC using IRS Code 7702. Message me for more info.
