Something happened today that really got me upset and wondering how companies can get away with what they do, when seeking job candidates.
I was contacted by a recruiter (a 3rd party company) for a contract opportunity with one of their client companies that would last about a year. Unlike most private recruiters, this one named the company and, after I submitted my resume, asked if I would fill out a questionnaire from the client company. I was fine with that, until I encountered three items. They (client company) wanted to know: a) my date of birth and, b) the last 4 digits of my social security number. And they need this before initiating an interview? I don't think so.
I let the recruiter know (in a very professional manner) that, my DOB was completely illegal to ask and that I did not feel at all pressured to supply my social security
