I make a list of what qualities are a good culture fit first, then design questions around that.
For my team it’s:
- cool under pressure
and a few others. So, for ownership I ask questions like “what’s a time a project you were part of went really wrong at work, what went wrong, who was at fault, and how did you contribute to the solution” - looking for who they blame and what action they take.
for resourcefulness, I ask this in the screen by having a question that they shouldn’t necessarily know the answer to, but could easily find it searching (you would be shocked how many people don’t do this)
other parts of “culture fit” can sometimes otherwise be classist, sexist, ageist, or racist, so it’s more important to fit culture around character traits.
