It has been so helpful reading other posts and their string of responses.
This is my first post and I'm hoping for more good feedback!
I've just started creating my exit strategy from an employer I've been with for 10+ years. Most of my time here has been mutually positive but the last few years have not. I hold a senior level job but am no longer fulfilled or appreciated. Long work hours with an increasing workload often make me feel I have to choose my job over my relationships/personal responsibilities. For several years my boss has said we need another employee in my group but when I've asked when, I get no response. Because of some challenging current issues, my resignation should not be a surprise but will create more workload on the remaining work horses.
I hope to resign within the next two months and take time off to spend with my aging parents who need to move to assisted living in another state. I'm hoping spending time with them will provide me with some clarity/fulfillment that will help finding my next job a positive experience. I hope the employment gap on my resume can be explained by caring for my family.
I will spend the next two months writing procedures and preparing myself to be unemployed.
I believe this is the right track for me but I'm scared -- I've had a job every day for the last 30+ years! Plus, changing paths now means my retirement might not happen as I've always planned.
I will appreciate any comments offered.
