Going Back To Work Seems Daunting...I'm Not Ready

Is it just me or has this quarantine made anyone else realize just how much they value their freedom? At the end of this month I will officially begin going back to work full-time and I've never been less excited. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job, I miss my coworkers and seeing the faces of students when I am able to assist them truly brings me joy. But, being able to assist students while also getting my hair done and running errands also brings me a lot of joy! I don't know, this quarantine has been a wild ride and I know a lot of us are itching for our old normal to come back. But I'm not so sure that I'm ready to go back to the way life used to be.

I feel the same. I have discovered in the COVID WFH scenario that I can be more effective at home doing my job. I get more done for my job and in my home, which is great, but as an administrator, I will likely not be granted an extensive WFH schedule as the assumption is that administrators need to be "visible". All I can do is ask, right? This is the first time in over five years that I have work-life balance and can successfully complete my work within the bounds of an 8 hour day and it feels great. I did not realize how much the constant interruptions in the office shredded my productivity. While I am still home, I'm strategizing how to organize my in-office workday to be maximize productive time.

Unfortunately I was laid off due to Covid and I’m hoping to find a position where I can WFH at least a couple times a week. It’s amazing how much more you can accomplish and do personally WFH. That’s several hours of commute time for many of us. I don’t miss going into an office to work all day, one bit.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hate to feel like I'm complaining when so many people are not as fortunate to even still have a job to report to. But I do agree, going into the office is not something I absolutely need to do in order to be successful at my job. I hope something opens up for you soon!

You're not alone! I've been loving WFH life, too. The good news is many companies have started to open their minds to letting people work remotely.

I agree with you on this. I am actually enjoying time with my husband and not having to travel 1.5 hrs each way :) I would love to have the option of traveling and meeting friends outside of work. But in general, I am really enjoying WFH.

Totally agree. Have you done any reading on lifestyle design?

Try Tim Ferris. He has a good podcast and a bunch of books.
