I have many jobs and I help alot of other employees in my workplace. I work with 3 other women. 2 of them are very mean. They will not help you if you ask for information on anything. Basically they just let you sink. One of them has been with the company for 15 years and she thinks she is above everyone else. When anyone stands up to her she runs and tattles to the bosses. Which by the way don't want to deal with conflict. How do I deal with her without being miserable at my job? I love the place I work except for the 2 mean girls. We got into a screaming fight a few days ago and one of the part time employees went and got the vice president of the company and he never came into the office we were arguing in. I finally told her to get out of my office. Thank you for any advice.

Life's too short to hate your job

This is really hard. Usually when people are mean it's because they are fearful. Maybe she's worried you'll usurp her. I used to get really worked up about certain personality types. Then I noticed that even when I changed jobs THEY were still there (In another form). It sounds hard, but I finally realized I could do a couple things. First might be to get to know her and find out her story and let her get to know you. Maybe she'll mellow out. That's best case scenario. Worst case, think of her in a stadium with a "I'm on Annette's Team" t-shirt...because she is majorly giving you lessons in patience and politics 1-1. If she's got the bosses ear and loyalty then plan on her not going anywhere. Just be humble, helpful, and stand up for yourself firmly and politely if she is mean. Good character eventually shows through.

If possible, I would elevate this to the bosses, not with a complaint about their meanness, but in how it can impact the work, office morale, and productivity. I would request that the bosses talk to the co-workers about being be better team players which would benefit everyone including the companies bottom line.
