Is it okay to buy the same clothes as your coworker?

I saw my coworker wearing this amazing shirt and I just neeeed to have it, but we're not that close and I feel a little weird about buying it and wearing it to work. Any advice for best ways to kindly ask if the coworker cares if I copy her? I know they say copying is the best form of flattery, but is that really true? I personally wouldn't mind, but I feel like some people don't like when people copy them...

I think it's great to say you love the shirt, but, to me, it would be weird and awkward if you actually wore the exact shirt to work.

I think it's fine to have the same shirt. I had a coworker buy the same sweater as me, but she acted like she looked so much better in it. That was just petty, rude, and shallow

Agree with the others but realize it can feel weird. You could mention it in passing on a day when you're NOT wearing it - with a big smile, "Hey, that top you wore was so cool, you inspired me and I wound up buying one just like it." If the conversation goes from there, you'll likely make a friend. Otherwise, leave it at that and wear it with abandon.

Ditto all of the responses here so far. An honest, "Oh my gosh, I love that shirt! Where did you get it?" should brighten up anyone's day. If she acts a little odd about it, do some google sleuthing and then just make sure to wear it on personal time. Go forth and shop!

If someone asked what I was wearing and then bought it, I'd take it as a compliment!

Go for it. I don't think it's a big deal at all - or at least it shouldn't be - especially among adults! I personally would find it flattering.

If you like it, ask her where she got it! Who cares if you have the same shirt?
