stay at home mom going back to work

I am currently a stay at home mom in Tampa, Florida. No one will hire me since I haven't work in 3 years. I was a developer before and took some refresher class in coding. Any company hiring as Returnship? Any advice ? Thanks..

You need a crisp, simple narrative explaining what you've been doing and what you want to do next "I took three years off to raise my young family. Now I'm looking to return to paid work using my developer skills, including my recent certification in Python (or whatever.)" Also you're going to need to activate your connections and network. Use this pitch as your entree and say "you know me (or my work) through our time together at X. Let me know if there are opportunities that you think are good fits." Also look at contract companies to get a short term gig to give you recent experience and then leapfrog to a full-time role.

Along with joining the STEM group here on FGB (as mentioned above), I would suggest searching Meetup for local developer/women in tech/startup meetups in your area. It never hurts to network locally and Meetup is a great place to start your local networking. I hire developers occasionally (remote job for PHP backend, front-end, search and data developers), and I'm happy to connect with you here and on LinkedIn.

For which types of roles are you looking for? There are so many different IT and developer roles (not my area) that so many companies are hiring for! Have you searched for jobs on this site at all? I see a lot of IT jobs.... Good luck! A three year gap is not bad- many women get back after 8+ years - it just takes awhile to find the right thing!

I read that Mom's wanting to get back into the work force should consider internships - look at bigger companies.

I recommend joining the women in STEM group on Fairygodboss as a good place to start! There are also a lot of past events that touch on this topic - check out the webinar with iRelaunch as an option. Best of luck!
