Being a go-getter

There are skills in the tech field that are needed in order to advance, but I have no passion for this. I know that it is necessary to work in the field that I truly am passionate about. What is a good way to overcome this?

Did you always have passion for tech and lose it after working for a while or did you never have passion for tech? If tech is something you once loved there are plenty of ways and resources to re-discover your love for the field and get you motivated again! If you never had passion for your field though, it might be time to consider switching industries. Connect with other people in your field to see why they like their jobs and how they stay motivated to help give you some ideas!

I am new to tech, and I have an interest but have been burned out due to other reasons.. Those reasons also have a lot to do with my underperformance. I have been here for a year and learning python/machine learning have been top priorities, but I barely get past one session of training. The goal is to learn as much here as possible (it's a very lax environment) then move on to a fintech role. I actually have been trying to re-discover my interest in tech by playing with an arduino.. I am waiting on that nvidia jetson nanon to come out! I think the biggest issue I have is getting super excited about something and at the first hurdle bowing out and moving on to something easier.

Ah I see. That's definitely tough, but it's important to push yourself and see your training and the learning process through so you can see if it's the right fit for you. Unfortunately (and with most jobs) there's always going to be at least one part of it that's not your favorite but if you like everything else you're doing you can definitely get through those parts!

You can still be a go-getter without advancing in your career. If you're happy with your job, there's no shame in that! Here are some ways to help you advance! - Find a mentor inside/outside of the company. - Embrace failure and learn from it. - Develop new goals with your boss that will motivate you. - Stay on the positive spectrum whenever you can. Best of luck!

I'm currently in an unrelated field that definitely has potential. It is tech and I am interested in finance. I can swing into fintech with this, but since my group is 98% senior men, it's easy to be ignored. I spoke to my boss today about utilizing my skills and finding ways for me to progress. Hopefully it gets through to him. I emphasized that I learn differently, and I will need guidance in the beginning.
