I am seeking a part time Interior Design position but almost impossible to find unless it is full time.

I am even willing to become a receptionist at a furniture store just to get my foot in the door. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, anonymous! Great question. I work with candidates and employers on how to be successful in a workflex arrangement and one of the top suggestions I make is to spend at least 3 months engaged in a full-time assignment before requesting some kind of modified work schedule. After making it clear how dedicated you are to your current work assignments, move on to why you think your work can be accomplished and further improved by a flexible work arrangement. I outline exactly how to pitch it and what to highlight in my e-guide, Reimagining Office Hours - how to break free from the 9-5: https://www.officehoursco.com/products/.

I worked in design as a young man before starting a construction business that carried me to retirement. One thing the designers I worked for all embraced was the state of their automobiles. Interior design is really more about sales than design and sales tools frequently find themselves misplaced. I emptied the car, organized the samples, before taking the vehicle to be washed and filled with gas. I had studied architectural rendering at college. My drawing ability coupled with getting down with gritty personal assistant groove carried me into beautiful homes. My take on interior design as profession might be a bit deflating. It's hard to make good money unless you own the shop.

Consider looking for a position as the design librarian. Not only will you get to help the designers by keeping the materials library neat and organized, you also can assist with setting up sales rep meetings which will be great for networking.
