My dentist just threw me off

I go to the dentist twice a year and I'm sure most of y'all do too. Since I can remember, I've always been told to floss once a day. However, today my new dentist today told me I need to be flossing twice a day. What?? Since when? Have I been missing this rule my entire life or is this new news to everyone?

There was a recent study completed that indicated that twice a day flossing keeps the gums and teeth healthier so you may hear this recommendation from your dentist this year. Not sure how practical it is though. As women, we have lots of other things to do!

I've always heard once a day too! But good to know.

I've always been told to floss after every meal. Typically, I floss three times a day. There was a point in time when I hardly ever flossed. However, when I started flossing everyday, I noticed a big difference.

You should not focus on what the dentist tells you. You should focus on what is good for you. And what is good is to clean when needed using whatever is adequate (toothbrush, floss, listerine, etc.) For example it makes sense to do a complete clean after each meal.

Floss is the only thing that cleans between the teeth-it goes where the toothbrush can't reach?

I floss before going ... it’s never been part of my routine. Yet, I brush probably 3x+ a day working from home.

As a dentist-once a day is awesome-and places where food gets stuck-floss each time. It takes 24 hours for bacteria to build up enough acid to breakdown a tooth and cause a cavity.a

As another dentist...I agree. Once a day is sufficient.

My dentist is lucky that I floss at all! I always seem to forget.
