Vacation budgets

The details: Do you stick with a hard budget for your vacation or do you have a flexible spending plan? I find myself falling for the "I'll only be here once" mindset and then buying stupid souvenirs for family/friends or going overboard with food. What do you all suggest?

I go with a flexible spending budget. It helps me get in the mentality that yes, I'm on vacation and can treat myself while still giving myself spending guidelines that are more than an average spending day.
