After working in a professional career, I opted be a stay at home mom and raise our kids. During most of that period, I taught part time or had other side gigs that were based on what was available but not following a specific career path or even my interests. We were in one place for years, then my husband lost his job and we moved (twice!) to different states, both times following his work. He has had a great job for two years now that he really likes and is a good fit so we are putting down roots. I, on the other hand, have a resume that makes me look like I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I explain the gap in cover letters but even if they get read, it doesn't seem to be making a difference.
I expected it to be hard to get back into the workforce when the time came but I never imagined it to be THIS difficult! I have finally figured out that probably the only way I'm going to get hired is through networking so I'm completely changing my strategy. I am so excited to get to work full time in a job that feels purposeful to me!
I would love to hear from others who have managed to relaunch their careers despite a resume that resembles Swiss cheese.
