have you ever skipped a friend's wedding because it's too expensive?

A close friend of mine is getting married, but it's looking like if I want to attend the wedding, it'll cost about $2,000. I want to be there but it's hard for me to justify spending that amount, even for a close friend of mine. I'm torn about what to say to her because I don't want to make her feel bad or guilty about what she's planning, but also don't want to make I seem like I'm blowing off the wedding for no good reason. Has anyone else been in this position?

Oh, no, that's a tough situation. My gut says tell your friend honestly that you'd love to celebrate with her but just don't have the budget for it. Of course, you know her & on your relationship to gauge how she'd react to that. Maybe you can suggest another way of celebrating with the couple, like a dinner together?
