Are men talking too much?

Hey, I just started a podcast, Women at Work, and at the end of the podcast one of the hosts mentions the website arementalkingtoomuch.com . It is a website that has a timer for meetings where you push the button for "dude" when a man is talking and the button "not a dude" when it is not a man speaking. I know I will be using it in my manager meeting today. Try it out and let me know your results!

Can you imagine the backlash if a woman created a site called arewomentalkingtoomuch.com? Just a thought...

I always take notes on my laptop so it is an easy thing to do secretly. It would be borderline combative to do this openly. My goal isn't to silence men, but to make sure that everyone is given the opportunity to speak without being interrupted. I also think the website hits in the humourous side with the dude and not a dude labels. I have been in hostile meetings for me by being constantly interrupted by my male peers. I have had to change the way I advocate for myself in meetings to make sure I get my whole point across. It is unfortunately this way for many women in the workplace, and I see this site as more of a way to let off some steam than attacking men.

I can see this being used to help determine the culture in meetings but I can also see this being offensive. So I would be careful with how you introduce it. I think you could produce the same results with a timer. Might not be as easy though.

Wow, this is pretty hostile to men and if it were done openly it would probably taken be badly....are you going to be telling people you'll be doing this?

Just to clarify, I started listening to this podcast. It is by women at Harvard Business Review.
