Job offer - just found out I’m pregnant

I started interviewing at a job at what I believe is my dream company in November. After my final interview 3.5 weeks ago I was called that I was there final choice, but they had to delay an offer because of an acquisition (they are doing the acquiring). 5 days ago I took a pregnancy test which was positive. Unplanned, but my husband and I are looking forward to this second child. Today, the head of HR at the company emailed to say she’d be in touch with good news in the next few weeks, so I assume a job offer. So my question is... Do I tell them I am pregnant or not? I haven’t been to the doctor yet to confirm, and it’s very early. But also don’t want to cone across later like a liar. Thanks for any help!

No! This happened to me. I interviewed for my current company and the day of the first interview I found out I was pregnant. I accepted the offer and specifically asked about maternity leave -- keep in mind that a company is not required to give you FMLA if you have been there for less than a year. But I did not disclose my pregnancy until I was ready at around 13 weeks. Just treat it like you would a regular job situation. Would you tell a boss you're pregnant right after you took a test? Most likely no. You don't owe the company anything and chances are they are hiring you for the long haul...and not just the next 9 months. ;-)

This was going to be my comment - before you take the job, just ensure you understand the leave policy!!

Wait until after you've started and are ready to share with people in general. Once you do start sharing, I recommend sharing with your boss and HR sooner rather than later so that they feel inclined to help smooth your maternity leave.

I would wait until you have confirmation from your doctor before disclosing just in case it’s a false positive

Congratulations! I would personally wait until the offer comes through and I had been to the doctor.

Thanks! And if the offer comes before the dr appt?

But what about when I get the offer, assuming it’s before my dr appt?

No, certainly not before you have an offer.

You're invited.
