Got a job offer for less than I'm making now.
Basically it's a similar job, same hours, same no benefits. It would give me a chance to do research which is an area I'd love to get into. Only thing is $2 less than what I'm currently making. Plus I just got a 3% raise. I bring in the more money even though my husband works full-time. How do I negotiate this?

There are only two times I would take a pay cut:
My partner just took a pay cut and is realizing that the benefits at the new company are not as good as the old one. They are sour about this even though they understood it going in. They need the experience this position will give them to make their ultimate goals come true and they left their old organization with several executives saying they would be welcome back anytime. The reason they left, these same executives had pigeonholed them because they really needed the technical expertise where it was, and moving/promoting towards his goals would leave a large hole in their technical area. They still speak with staff at the old company and even provide some pointers but they are currently getting that new experience, even while sour at some of the "gives" they needed to make to get there.

I am currently in a job that was a pay cut from what I was making, but the location was better for my family. In addition to that, I hate the company. I'm constantly looking for something else that will pay me what I'm worth. Don't settle - you won't be happy in the long run.
