I changed roles in my company within the last year (went to a completely new group with a different role and career path, more on strategy and communication, versus proposal management), and was promoted from a Manager to Director. I love what I do but in the context of the pandemic, my role has become very flexible/fluid. I have never been one to hold myself to the JD only, but it is always nice from an expectations perspective. With that being said, the business unit is undergoing growth and restructuring and my manager is thinking that given all of my responsibilities, she sees me in a Chief of Staff type roll for the business moving forward. In your opinion, does this seem like a step up or step down, or lateral type move? At first it felt like a demotion, but now that I am doing some research on this type of role I might see great potential. What are your thoughts?
OP update: Thank you all for your responses and feedback! This has given me a good comfort level around the *potential" for the position as well as the discussion points that will still need to be had with my manager before making the decision. I appreciate you all! Have a wonderful rest of 2020.
