Cashier Etiquette

Alrighty , I run a cash register all day--every day. I'm not complaining about my job, I love my job! ? It's my co-worker....he will not shut up! We have lines from here to eternity and he's over there having a 5-7 minute conversation with a customer (not work related). It's bad when even our customers notice it! My fellow cashiers and I have tried *everything* we know to get him to stop. We've asked him nicely, customers have mentioned it to him. We've even had to be rude and just flat out say for him to shut up. Our manager and management team is aware of this and has spoken to him about it. To no avail. We wear headsets at work and he continually interjects himself into others conversations (with inappropriate comments or a comment that has nothing to do with the said questions) making it extremely difficult to effectively communicate with the rest of our team. Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated. We are at our wits end with Jim!

Honestly I would mind my own business. But if starts to affect my work in any way shape or form I would first talk to the fellow cashier and then I would talk to his supervisor that didn't help. But again I would only do this if it is affecting my stats my job. I do understand what you're saying though he needs to pick up the pace and it can very frustrating to see someone slack off while your busy. I think you should talk to co worker first.

This sounds so F word -- FRUSTRATING. It sounds like Jim is a pleasant dude (until he isn't and wasn't) and you desperately need this issue to get resolved quickly; it sounds very wearing. Can a manager(s) shadow Jim? If there are several managers, they may want to shadow at different times; this way, each manager gets their own perspective of Jim's lengthy or inappropriate convos. Since they are shadowing they may be able to put a stop to it right then, right there. If not, the managers can meet and discuss best way(s) to help keep the conversations to a minimum -- they will need to put in some effort but this route may pay off. Or...everyone gets a ding dong bell. When a line is being help up, not just by Jim's jovial conversation, but by any coworker, you can ring a bell, this could prompt shorter convos. If not, and Jim is truly intrusive, the management will need to let Jim know the job isn't for him. Good luck to you, all day er'day.
