How can you get motivated to switch to working out in the morning?

I am a person who works out at night, but I want to switch to the morning on weekdays. I am tired of getting off the treadmill or wrapping up my strength routine at 10 PM. What are the keys to making the shift? Sub-Problem: My workouts are 1-1.5 hours all together...

Thanks everyone for the advice - next week is my trial morning workouts! I have my checklist, sleep schedule reminders set and reminder set to get my stuff ready night before. #letsdothis!!!

My gym requires me to sign up for classes in advanced which can be annoying at times, but it also helps hold me accountable!

This is going to sound very OCD, but it works... I'm big on checking off lists and completing challenges, so my suggestion would be to make a 30-day challenge for yourself with checkboxes for each day (you can vary your routine on this, too). I find that if i start one of these, I am waaaay more motivated to follow through since I NEED to check that box off each morning. Good luck and keep us posted!

Great advice in this thread! Also, I've found that motivation only gets you so far and discipline has to pull you the rest of the way. Good luck!!

^^ Those three above are the only things that ever worked for me: consistent sleep schedule even on weekends, a roommate to drag me out of bed, and having everything prepped, so my groggy brain doesn't derail me with trying to decide which top to wear. It feels great when you can do it, though!

I've found prep is crucial for a morning workout routine! If I know my breakfast, gym clothes, anything I need to get ready for work after my workout, etc. are prepped and waiting for me I'm less inclined to find reasons not get up.

I have a workout partner! We keep each other in check each morning and it prevents me from making “too tired/maybe later” excuses.

Love this! Having an accountability partner is crucial, whether it's someone who wakes up and goes to the gym with you, a group that you work out with, or even someone who just commits to waking up in the mornings and working out (not with you) and holding each other accountable / checking in with each other!

I switched to working out in the morning last year! Not going to lie.. it was kind of brutal at first. But my secret is changing my entire schedule. I wake up at 6am instead of 7:30am. Then I found myself going to bed earlier. I also made sure I didn't sleep in too late over the weekends because it messes up the entire routine. It turned into a morning workout routine before I knew it and I absolutely love it now.
