Schedule Visibilty

Our healthcare facility recently changed scheduling programs, and the scheduler has decided that we no longer can see the entire schedule (as in see everyone’s schedule). Our staff is very unhappy with this. We like knowing who we are scheduled with, who is relieving us, and it make trades much easier. We also then know who should be there if they are late, and can contact them directly (usually to find that they are running late) instead of contacting the scheduler to then call the person in question, and then have the scheduler call us back. For healthcare managers- what would be the best way to approach this to change things? Everyone else - if you have a schedule that changes, is the entire staff allowed to see the full schedule or are they limited to only seeing their own? And if only their own, what is the rationale?

I agree that it is a great question to ask on why this changed and the reason why it changed. Seems reasonable to be able to see each other's schedule in a view only type mode.

Is it possible they want everything to go through one person/scheduler? Perhaps to control the trades and casual tardiness? Either way, with a little well-defined rationale, a hybrid process should be feasible. Make your pitch.

Definitely bring it up. I am a super private person and don't like anyone knowing my business, but that is me. It's worth a greater discussion

While your logic is reasonable, there are privacy issues at play here. You may have someone who doesn't want their schedule public for various reasons. I absolutely would ask, but be gentle about it as there may be additional items restricting this.

To me, your logic sounds reasonable and I can understand why you would want the visibility. I would put it in writing to the person managing it and tell them your reasons behind keeping it. You never know they might just keep it around and thank you for your honesty and input.

Those are good questions - why aren't you comfortable asking your management who is responsible for the changes or is managing the scheduler (I assume it's a person)?
