I have a job that I'm not exactly crazy about, but the people I work with are super nice. During my job interview, my boss had her dog in the room. Being a dog lover, I thought it was great. She hired me because she said her dog really liked me. She wasn't wrong. Her dog has literally attached herself to me. Everywhere I go, the dog goes. It was very flattering and cute at first, but now it's just downright annoying. I work in a professional environment where I meet a lot of outside people and visitors, so I have to dress business casual. My boss's dog is a big one that sheds a LOT, so I am always walking around with dog hair on my clothes. A lint brush helps with that, but this dog also rubs her nose and mouth across my clothes, leaving long slime marks. I've tried to gently guide the dog out of my office, closing my door, and she will sit outside my office barking and howling until my boss opens the door to let her in, which results in even more slime marks on me and my clothes. My boss expects me to clean up anything left behind by the dog too, and she will ask me where her dog is if the dog isn't with me. Everyone at work thinks I love this dog, but I do not. I actually dread coming to work because of her. I love dogs, but I think this is too much. She uses her size to push past me if I'm trying to keep her away from my clothes, arms, food, etc. I don't know what to do. My boss is always telling everyone how much the dog loves me and how wonderful it is. I'm really trying to just grin and bear it until I can find another job. I even went so far as to get an electronic dog deterrent to keep the dog from getting too close. It didn't work. I'm not necessarily looking for advice. It's just a bit of a rant. Can my boss really be so naive as to think anyone but her would enjoy this? I would never allow my own dog to behave that way with others.
